5th grade Appreciations, Trimester 3
Pierce has brought professionalism and persistence to every assignment. One could be negative and say he is quick to work because he'll be gone next week, but this is an unfair assessment, as Pierce has shown dedication and engagement the entire trimester. He is open to new ideas. He can draw from his imagination and from observation. He is a positive contributor to our community and we wish him a great summer!
Jackson is a life long learner who takes his passions to the paper when he makes artwork. For example, His love of history is most apparent in his Guess Who board, which goes above and beyond expectation by giving each character not only specific facial features, but specific time periods. He wants to contribute and does so often; he even made a specific piece just for our all district arts night. I look forward to working with Jackson in the future.
Jameson is an open minded and reflective student, prone to being given assignments and finishing them with his specific expression. I love his fish he made as a stuffed animal; he clearly understood stenciling and applied the craft to his own specific interest. With continued practice, he will develop his crafts to new heights, opening opportunities for him for a long time.
Grace's portraits are bright, bold and drawn with conviction and care. She is someone who is makes art with joy, someone who clearly loves creating. She never resents challenges, but sees them as opportunities to expand her abilities. It is a great pleasure to witness her growth as an artist, to see her vision become more vivid with every drawing. Have a great summer, Grace!
Deegan's stuffed bird is a fabulous illustration of his engagement and persistence abilities. Without much direct assistance from the teacher, Deegan would thread his own needles and sew his own stuffed animal, regardless of holes or technique. As his craft developed, the clarity of the animal became more apparent. His art is a testimony of his persistence, a skill which will help him in the future. Great job!
Delano's joy of life is evident in his stuffed animal. He is a pleasure to have in class, a young man with an ambition to live life to the fullest, to achieve at a high status. He is enthusiastic and engaged, traits I hope will never go away. Please continue to make art over the summer, for it's own sake, because it's a fun thing to do. Great job!
Farrah is a humble student who has explored with various art materials this trimester. Her work branches out into watercolor, fiber art and illustration. She has used a variety of tools and works in gentle, careful brush strokes. I look forward to seeing all her work in google classroom and I hope she has a wonderful summer.
Kaylsta has made a watercolor emotion board where the background becomes textile, where she has explored different applications of watercolor paint and she has illustrated a variety of emotions. Her work is careful and she respects materials for how they help her grow as an artist. I hope she continues to make art for its own sake this summer, not because it's an assignment, but because it exercises the brain, the hands, the eyes and the heart.
Haven is a lively artist. The heads of her board are large, her pencil strokes fast and brash and her personality magnetic. She has found joy in many of our art projects, such as the friendship bracelets and in seminar, the "god's eyes" weavings. I hope she continues to develop her various crafts in creation and finds joy in making artwork. She makes class fun and helps others find their voices in art.
Violet was already an experienced and accomplished artist, but this year she progressed even further. Her figure drawings, be them fashion models or from life drawings, have become more complex and dynamic. Her figures bend, their center of gravity shifts, they express emotion through their mannerisms. This is a huge shift from when she first came to Monomoy and her figures were stiff. Drawing is only one way she has developed however as her felting and sewing is impressive. I hope she makes lots of art over the summer. Great job!
Alana is a careful artist whose drawings are intricate and exact. She takes her time, but to see her work is always wroth the wait. There is a joy she finds in exactness, but her work is also accessible. She continues to impress with her attention to detail.
Connor finds ways to entertain himself with the assignments, making sure his heads in the Guess Who Board go above and beyond when adding detail to each individual head. This joy of working and making the work his will help him all through life, as tasks will begin to be challenges as to how to make something fun. He has demonstrated that he understands that an art assignment is an opportunity to explore his interests, be them funny, enigmatic or serious.
Declan is a phenomenal artist who has shown progress and proficiency in every challenge presented to him. He has very high standards for himself and for the people around him. I hope he knows we are all better off from his efforts and that he inspires us to do our best. I hope he continues to draw and create over the summer and I look forward to working with him again in the future at Monomoy. Congrats, Declan!
The craft seen in Charlotte's weaving is astounding as she was able to make an almost perfect square on her first coaster attempt! To do this demands great observation skills and developed craft, the imagination to have a vision come to life. She is both assertive and gentle as made evident by her weaving. I am honored to have been able to teach her and to assist her in making this elegant coaster.
Shiloh is a natural cartoonist. His caricatures are funny and diverse. There is a joy he brings to every assignment and perhaps even vision. Developing already at a young age is a specific voice and style, he expresses satire, but he also respects the characters he makes, putting time and effort and engagement into each face. I can't wait to work with Shiloh again!
It is a joy to work with students who are unaware of their own strengths and talents. My assumption is that Miles is one of these students; these observation drawings made by looking at a cartooning packet illustrating emotions, expresses a wide variety of emotions. They are done so well they barely need labels. With this knowledge of strength, Miles can continue to create and develop a craft and voice all his own. This is a skill that will benefit him for years to come.
Jafet has developed his craft at a very quick speed. He has mixed colors, drawn and learned different emotions, has worked in 3D, has made a stuffed animal and every day contributes to the class by being a positive force for good. I have had a wonderful time working with him this year, not just in art class, but at Dungeons and Dragons club and in the hallways. Monomoy is a better place thanks to Jafet, we have the pictures to prove it.
